FORMULA SAE ITALY 2008 RULES
Formula SAE Italy 2008 complies with the Formula SAE 2008 Rules. In addition to those rules, the following prescription will apply to the Formula SAE Italy event.
1. Official Languages
The official language of the Formula SAE Italy is English.
2. Eligibility
2.1 Society Membership
Students, Team Leaders and Faculty Advisors must be MEMBERS of their own national referent Association. For example, Italian Teams must be associated to ATA, English to IMechE,...
In case of Teams coming from nations which don't have FISITA referent Association they can choose to subscribe either to ATA or SAE.
2.2 Class definition
2.2.1 First Year Vehicle Class 1
Class 1 is reserved for fully functional vehicles, as defined by the FSAE Rules (2.2.4.1 First year vehicle). Points will be awarded for design, presentation, cost, acceleration, skidpad, autocross, endurance and fuel economy.
2.2.2 Second Year Vehicle Class 1 (200)
Second Year Vehicle are not admitted at the competition.
2.2.3 Design Review Category Class 3
Teams that will participate in the "Design review category" will be admitted to the Design, Presentation and Cost event. A static presentation of the car, or part of it, can be conducted in order to better explain the project. A separate classification will be reserved for those teams.
Design, Presentation and Cost Event will follow the rules valid for Class 1. The Cost report must be submitted and contain an estimation of the cost of the actual car.
2.2.4 Entries per University
Registration into Formula SAE Italy is limited to one (1) team per university, e.g. a university registered with one team in Class 1 may not register a second team in Class 3
2.2.5 Withdrawals
Registered teams that find that they will not be able to attend the competition are requested to officially withdraw by notifying the following by e-mail to claudia.rossi@crf.it not later than the 5th of September 2008.
3. Driver Equipment
3.1 Suit
Only one-piece omologated suit will be permitted.
3.2 Balaclava
Fire-resistant omologated balaclava must be worn by the driver toghether with the other safety equipment.
4. Noise Test
4.1 Exhaust System Sealing
Mufflers and removable devices that affects the noise level will be sealed in the as tested condition by the Tech Inspector. Teams are required to drill a 1 mm diameter hole in mufflers and removable device in order to seal them with a wire. If, at any time during the competition, a car is found with a broken seal the car will be withheld form the competition until it has re-passed the noise test.
5. Fuels
Unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 98 RON will be the only fuel available at the competition. Only the fuel provided by the organizer may be used at the event. No fuel may be brought at the site of the event.
6. Presentation Event
6.1 Data Projection
Projector equipment with VGA connection cable will be provided by the organizers of the event.
7. Dynamic event & Pit Rules
7.1 Transponder
Teams are not requested to carry their own transponder.
7.2. Endurance Run Order
The run order of the endurance will be based on the finish order of the autocross event without considering any penalty. A provisional classification of the autocross event will be declared by the organizer.
Teams that are not ready-to-run when their turn arrives will be penalized two (2) minutes and permitted to run at the end of the heat (time permitting) or at the discretion of the event captain.
At the discretion of the organizer a different criteria for endurance run order may be applied.
7.3. Engine Running Area
Running the engine is not allowed in the pit. A designated area will be provided for that purpose.
Engine running is allowed only during the active hours of the competition. No engine will be allowed to run under any circumstances between 18.30 and 9.00 and during lunch time. The actual hour of lunch time will be declared by the organizers.
7.4. Practice Area
Subject to space availability, a practice area will be provided to test the functionality of the car. Practice track may be used only during the scheduled practice time. Cars using the practice track must have all parts of the technical inspection sticker. At the discretion of the officials, a car may enter the practice area if the brake test has not been passed, but at least attempted once.
Only one car at time may use the practice area. If at least one car is waiting to enter the practice track, no car will be allowed to run more than five minutes.
